About us

Who we are

We are an NGO called The Great Poroza Sports Academy, started in 2013 and we run sports and educational programs specifically aimed at empowering youth. Education and sports are at the core of what we believe in and we use these disciplines to empower our youth from school-going age (10 to 16) to early adult life, 18 to 30 years old. We started with a small local football team called SOWETO FC and now we run various community impact projects that benefit young people urban and rural under-developed communities. Managing Director

Our organization has been led by a fearless leader, who, alongside the late co-founder Mr. Albert Mabotja, has been key since our inception. His journey embodies a steadfast commitment to empowering and developing the community's youth.

Thato Moatlhodi
Marketing & Partnerships

He is a creative at heart & an ego-less marketing generalist with a passion for connecting with people. He is a strong humanitarian who puts the needs of youth first

Sechaba Mokhethi
IT & Operations Director

He is a multi-talented IT specialist who Connects well with the youth that we serve. His passion for facilitation is infectious and impactful to all our beneficiaries.

Our Reach

We have branches in Gauteng and Western Cape, reaching over 2500 youth on an annual basis. Please contact us for more information regarding the Areas you would like us to reach out to. Currently we have programs running in Soweto – Protea North, Protea South, Protea Glen, Naledi townships, and in Sebokeng and Everton areas. In the Western Cape, we have programs in Van Wyksdorp Ladismith and Oudtshoorn areas. In North West, we have programmes in Rustenburg (Phokeng rural villages) and in Northern Cape we have programmes in Kathu.
